European Red List assessments completed

During 2023, Caroline provided technical and scientific support to the IUCN in their work to measure European biodiversity using the Red List Index. Species on the European Red List (ERL) were last assessed in 2007, and the 2023 assessments included an expanded spatial area within the definition of European waters.

Caroline led the assessments for 10 cetacean species, compiling information regarding their geographic range, distribution status in Europe, population size and trend, preferred habitats, general ecology, major threats and current and future conservation measures needed:
