The project study area

The study area is centred off Flamingos (15°33'S 12°01'E) located between Namibe and Tombwa in southern Angola.  The coastline is characterised predominantly by shelving sandy beaches, with small amounts of intermittent cliff and rocky coast.  The shelf edge is narrow, reaching 200 m only around 15 km offshore.  Annual sea temperature varies from approximately 18°C during the winter months up to around 30°C during the summer.
